    Parliamentary Standing Committee visits various institutes in Leh, interact with mgmt & staff

    Leh, July 05: The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, under the Chairmanship of Dr Vinay P Sahsrabhuddhe, MP, Rajya Sabha, visited the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Choglamsar, where they interacted with staff, teachers and discussed the promotion of research, innovation and documentation in the institute.
    Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, gave a brief introduction to CIBS, its structure and history, the main objectives of the institute, staff and student strength, courses offered and the ongoing research programme.     The members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee later visited Druk Padma Karpo School at Shey. They interacted with the school management and teachers on bringing innovations in the curriculum, pedagogy and infrastructure to develop exemplar schools. The school management apprised the Committee members of the facilities and activities in the school that makes it a special and standout school among the rest, including dedicated classes that focus on developing interdisciplinary personalities, a pedagogy that not only focuses on academic but also on co-curricular activities by developing life skills through various experiential learning.
    They later inspected the community classes at Thiksey to address the challenges faced in school education during the Covid-19 pandemic. They visited the Sherap Skitsal Ling Library and Learning Centre at Thiksey and the Sindhu Ghat at Shey.
    The Parliamentary Standing Committee held a meeting with the SBI Management on Educational Loan for pursuing higher studies. Joint Secretary, UGC, Director, Department of Higher Education; Joint Secretary, School Education and Director, Department of Financial Services were present in the meeting.
