Minister of Agriculture Sikkim visits Fruits Growers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society Kargil Interacts with local farmers

KARGIL, SEPTEMBER 25, 2021: Minister of Agriculture Government of Sikkim Lok Nath Sharma visited Fruits Growers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society Kargil at Bethang Shilikchay here on Friday and interacted with the local farmers.
The Minister inspected the apricot dryer machine processing unit and also interacted with the local farmers.
The concerned officers apprised the Minister about the various products including apricot jam, tomato puree, apricot oil, apple products and other allied products being produced by the society.
The Minister said that apricot and apple products of Kargil have the potential to be taken to the national and international markets. He directed the CEO of Sikkim State Organic Certification Agency (SSOCA) to collaborate with the Horticulture and Agriculture Department Kargil to conduct survey of soil testing for organic certification.
The Minister of Agriculture further said that once the local products get the organic certification, farmers would be able to sell their products in national and international markets which will certainly enhance their economy besides also generating multiple avenues of income generation for the local youths as well.
