Ladakh Winter Greenhouse will be vital for Employment generation and food sustainability

Leh, December 28: Administrative Secretary Agriculture UT Ladakh today on 28th December 2021 visited the Model Ladakh Winter Greenhouse at Gupuk Farm of Agriculture Department developed with technical support from DIHAR, DRDO, Leh. Administrative secretary Agriculture was accompanied by Chief Agriculture officer Leh, District Agriculture Officer Leh, Sub. Divisional Agriculture Officer, Leh, and other Officers of the department.
Administrative Secretary Agriculture praised the department for making Model Ladakh Winter Greenhouse for demonstration for farmers and unemployed youth. This Greenhouse can produce fresh organic vegetables in the harsh winter season through Polycarbonate Greenhouse technology and also emphasised the technical/scientific use of the greenhouses to make Ladakh self-reliant in vegetable production especially during the harsh winter months and doubling the farmer income. This project will support young agri-entrepreneurs for commercial cultivation and thereby employment generation on a large scale.
Moreover, the Administrative Secretary, Agriculture directed the officers of the department to start the sale of the vegetables at the earliest so that the locals can get the fresh vegetables at an affordable price.
Chief Agriculture Officer, Leh thanked the Secretary, Agriculture for visiting the Farm and supporting the officers of the department to achieve such a milestone.
