    KVK Kargil celebrates World Pulses Day Acting CEC Aga Abbas Razvi calls for promotion of pulses, organic farming

    KARGIL, FEBRUARY 10, 2022: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-1 today celebrated World Pulses Day at its campus at Kurbathang which was attended by Acting Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Aga Syed Abbas Razvi.
    While speaking on the occasion, Razvi said interventions in agricultural production should be done by the concerned executing agencies in collaboration with farmers and stakeholders to promote pulses production and organic farming.
    The acting CEC assured that in collaboration with KVK Kargil, the necessary intervention will be taken to restrict pest infestation in Suru area.
    Razvi said that Self Help Group (SHG) workers should come forward in the promotion of agricultural practices and help the concerned agencies to make Kargil surplus in pulses production.
    He also advised the progressive women farmers to take maximum benefits under the subsidy component.
    Principal Scientist KVK Kargil, Akhone Muhammad Mehdi expressed concern over rise in cancer cases in Kargil, particularly due to the consumption of red meat. He said pulses can be a better alternative for protein intake which is vital in Himalayan regions.
    Earlier, Dr Rinchan Dolker gave a presentation on the theme of pulses for food and nutritional security and potential pulses of Kargil.
    During the event, Program Officer ICDS, Aga Murtaza, Sub Division Agriculture Officer Mohammad Hussain and Scientist KVK Dr Nasreen Fatima also addressed the gathering and spoke at length about the importance of pulses and organic farming.
    Pertinently, the acting CEC also visited Green Houses at KVK Station Kargil during which he was informed about various research initiatives taken by the department for better production of vegetables during the winter season.
    The day was celebrated with the theme “Atma Nirbhat Bharat- Harnessing potential pulses for import substitution.”
    Principal Scientist and Head KVK Kargil, Muhammad Mehdi Akhone, Program Officer ICDS, Aga Murtaza, Scientist KVK Dr Nasreen Fatima, SDAO Muhammad Hussain, Dr Rinchan Dolker besides concerned officers of KVK, ICDS and a number of progressive female farmers attended the event.
