    KARGIL, OCTOBER 2, 2021: As a part of the series of programmes under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Gandhi Jayanti celebrations and month-long Clean India Programme, District Administration Kargil, Nehru Yuva Kendra Kargil (NYK) Kargil, Gandhi Global Family Kargil and Municipal Committee Kargil kick started a cleanliness drive at Auditorium Hall Kargil premises here today.
    Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kargil Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir was the chief guest on the occasion.
    Speaking on the occasion, the CMO Kargil said that apart from propagating the principles of truth and equality, Gandhiji was also a keen propagator of hygiene and cleanliness, and need of the hour is to follow these principles and contribute our bit to keep our surroundings neat and clean. He further said that cleanliness is a collective effort, and as responsible citizen of society we should not only be aware about its importance for healthy and happy living but also amplify this message among the general population.
    District Youth Coordinator NYK Kargil Jigmet Spaldon said that during the month long cleanness drive, awareness programmes and cleanliness drives will be conducted in every single village of the district to reiterate the importance cleanliness and hygiene. She stressed on the need to avoid the use of plastics and termed it as one of the main reasons for environmental degradation.
    District Coordinator Gandhi Global Family (GGF) Kargil Ghulam Muhammad Khan stressed on the message of global harmony and brotherhood by Gandhiji. He said that Ladakh is a prime example of communal harmony and brotherhood where for centuries people have been living with peaceful coexistence and this tradition needs to be further strengthened in the present era.
    Recounting Mahatma Gandhi’s pivotal role in India’s Freedom Struggle, he said Gandhi’s teaching of non-violence is still relevant across the globe and Bapu’s principle of Ahimsa will continue to guide us and the rest of the world.
    Later, the volunteers of NYK, GGF, volunteers of Suru Valley Public High School and Safai Karamcharies of MC Kargil conducted a cleanliness drive from Auditorium Hall Kargil which culminated at Petrol Pump area Kurbathang.
