    KARGIL, AUGUST 17, 2021: As a part of different activities held under the celebration of the 75 Years of India’s Independence- Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Executive Councillor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Punchok Tashi distributed handloom equipments among the Self Help Groups (SHGs) of Yak products registered with Animal Husbandry Department Zanskar here today.
    Area Development Officer/ Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) SDM Zanskar Sonam Dorjay, Block Veterinary Officer (BVO) Zanskar Dr Kacho Anwar Ali, other concerned officers besides farmers were present on the occasion.
    The equipments included Tibetan type iron portable carpet looms, knitting machines, foot pedal charkhas, knitting tables and wooden benches etc which have been purchased by the Animal Husbandry Department Kargil under Special Development Package (SDP) to promote the Yak wool products in the district.
    Speaking on the occasion, EC Punchok Tashi congratulated the societies registered with the Animal Husbandry Department for having acquired the handloom equipments. Underlining the potential of yak wool products in enhancing the income of farmers associated with Animal and Sheep Husbandry sectors, the EC Zanskar Affairs stressed on the need to create marketing avenues so that farmers are benefitted.
    EC Tashi further assured that the LAHDC Kargil is committed to provide full support to promote and market these kinds of local products.
    SDM Zanskar also addressed the farmers and assured full support by the local administration towards this initiative.
    Meanwhile, Block Veterinary Officer Zanskar Dr Kacho Anwar Ali informed on the occasion that the Animal Husbandry Department Kargil is organizing training in knitting and weaving in the sub division by engaging skilled and experienced personnel in the first week of September.
