    Archives Department Ladakh organizes cleanliness drive, illumination at Maitreya Buddha Statue Apati (2)

    KARGIL, OCTOBER, 31, 2021: As part of various events held under Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav and UT Ladakh Foundation Day, Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museum UT Ladakh in collaboration with Government Middle School Garpone Apati organized a cleanliness drive and illumination at Maitreya Buddha Statue heritage site at Apati village here today.
    During the event, cleanliness awareness rally starting from Government Middle School Garpone Apati concluded at the Buddha Statue site where students in large number participated in cleanliness of the peripheries of the statue.
    Registering Officer Antiquities Department of Archaeology and Museum Ladakh Khadim Hussain, Incharge Head Teacher Government Middle School (GMS) Garpone Apati Muhammad Ali, Village Education Committee Member Muhammad Hussain, school staff besides good number of school students participated in the cleanliness drive.
    While addressing the students, Registering Officer Khadim Hussain stressed for the preservation and promotion of the site and assured of all possible development of the heritage site, adding he urged the villagers to continue the legacy of hospitality towards the pilgrims.
    The Village Education Committee members and school teachers also addressed the students about the importance of cleanliness and preservation of the rare Maitreya Buddha Statue.
    Earlier, the event started with the National Anthem and later in the evening decoration lights were also lit near the statue.
