    Workshop on JJM implementation held in Kargil CEC Feroz Khan thanks GoI for launching JJM to ensure safe drinking water facilities in rural India, congratulates PHE, PWD, I&FC other concerned agencies for achieving 30 percent of total target

    KARGIL, MARCH 10: District Administration Kargil under District Water and Sanitation Management today organized a workshop on the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Kargil to review its progress, deliberate action plan and future strategies to achieve the given target.
    Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan was the chief guest on the occasion while Commissioner/Secretary, Ajeet Kumar Sahu and Secretary Rural Development Department Ladakh, Saugat Biswas interacted with participants virtually.
    Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve, Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Ghulam Muhammad, Chief Engineer (PHE) LADAKH, Ved Prakash, Superintendent Engineer PWD, Tashi Tundup, Assistant Executive Engineers from all sub-divisions, officials of third-party Inspection Agency(TPIA), Implementing Support Agency (ISA), Project Management Unit (PMU), officers of Rural Development Department, Public Health Engineering, Public Works Department were present during the day-long workshop.
    CEC Khan thanked the Government of India for launching a revolutionary scheme ensuring safe drinking water facilities to every household in rural India under the JJM.
    The CEC termed the mission a noble initiative and lauded the efforts of officials working at ground level. He said the commitment made by the UT Administration to complete the mission this year amid all challenges in Ladakh can only be achieved with the dedication and hard work of all the officials and concerned stakeholders.
    CEC Khan stressed on community involvement in the scheme and urged PRI members to mobilize people and make them aware of the benefits of the scheme.
    Khan also said that after the completion of the scheme, communities at various village levels will monitor the functioning of the scheme.
    CEC Khan congratulated the officials of PHE, PWD, I&FC other concerned agencies for achieving 30 percent of the total target.
    He said the persistent efforts of the officials and other concerned agencies will surely help us to meet the target on the stipulated time period which is August 15, 2022.
    CEC Khan requested participants to clear confusion regarding the implementation of JJM on the ground and participants should take maximum benefits of the workshop.
    Secretary Rural Development Ladakh, Saugat Biswas lauded the efforts of PHE Department headed by the District Administration for speedy implementation of JJM works in the district.
    Biswas exhorted that the JJM would not be complete given the concerted efforts put by all the concerned departments and officials and unless the aspect of greywater management is integrated with piped water supply in each household.
    He called for necessary coordination between RDD and PHE for effective and sustainable implementation of JJM as the operation and management part of the scheme would be handed over to the Panchayats once the mission is completed.
    While appreciating the global and national recognition Ladakh for implementation of JJM, Commissioner/Secretary, Ajeet Kumar Sahu hailed the hard work of all the concerned officers and officials associated with JJM.
    Stressing on the sustainability of JJM, Sahu through virtual mode said the design aspect of the JJM work is important to ensure its sustainability in long run and directed to ensure that designs are within the prescribed parameters.
    Given the harsh climatic conditions in Ladakh, Sahu said the tap location and insulation are important aspects that need to be taken seriously. He also said that studies have shown that tap location is best placed within a closed area or preferably inside the greenhouse.
    Earlier, DC Santosh Sukhadeve said that JJM emphasizes capacity-building workshops to enhance the potential of the concerned officials and agencies associated with the scheme.
    He urged all the participants to take maximum benefits of the workshop, have detailed discussions and deliberations with experts in order to achieve the target on given time.
    The technical session of the workshop focused on topics such as techno-managerial assessments, DPR Appraisal, best practices in cold and hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh.
    Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil, Ghulam Muhammad gave a detailed presentation on Greywater management.
    Several officials associated with JJM were felicitated for their commendable work. The workshop ended with an interactive question-answer session while an open discussion was also held during the workshop.
