    UT Ladakh Admin addresses outbreak of FMD in the region

    Leh, June 10: Secretary, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar, joined the meeting convened by Joint Secretary, Livestock Health, Ministry of Fisheries Animal Husbandry and Dairying, GoI, Upamanyu Basu to discuss the recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the region and its control measures.
    Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Deputy Commissioner, Kargil; Director, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and concerned officers of the department were present in the meeting.
    Secretary, Ravinder Kumar apprised that mass vaccination to control the spread of the FMD in the infected areas would begin from 11th July, 2021 in both Leh and Kargil districts in a mission mode. He also directed/instructed the Deputy Commissioners of both the districts to take preventive measures and impose restriction on inter-district movement of livestock till complete vaccination is achieved.
    Secretary, Ravinder Kumar directed the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department to depute medical teams to every block for early completion of the vaccination. He also appeals to the farmers to cooperate with the department and to take preventive measures till the vaccination process to effectively control FMD is completed.
