Social Welfare Department celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities

KARGIL, DECEMBER 03, 2021: Department of Social Welfare Kargil today organized the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) in collaboration with Health Department, Education Department and Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) Kargil at training hall CMO office Kargil.
Chief Medical officer Kargil Dr Munawar Hussain, Deputy CMO Dr Muhammad Abass, District Social Welfare Officer Aga Syed Jamal, District Education Planning Officer Muhammad Amin, Child Development Project Officer Shargole Farida Banoo, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Rehana Parveen besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
A large number of specially-abled persons who were registered with the Social Welfare Department, ICDS beneficiaries, Children with Special Need (Cheap) of Education Department Kargil were present as participants.
District Social Welfare Officer Aga Syed Jamal enlightened the participants about the aims and objectives of celebrating the day.
He said that the observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
The DSWO further mentioned that the government has several schemes for specially-abled persons, in order to avail the benefits of government schemes, the person must have a unique disable identity card. The beneficiary will get financial assistance as well as supportive equipment from the concern department.
On the occasion, disability certificates were distributed among the eligible persons.
Earlier, CMO Dr Munawar Hussain stressed on the importance of having a unique identity card and said the department is going to make a calendar block so that the eligible person will get Unique Disable Identity (UDID) Card, which will be issued by Health Department for specially-abled persons registered with Social Welfare Department, Education Department and ICDS Kargil.

This year’s theme of the day is “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”
