    Officials visit flood-affected areas in Kargil, Zanskar

    KARGIL, JULY 05, 2022: Officials of different departments today visited several flood-affected areas in Kargil and Zanskar to inspect the damage caused by floods.
    Councilor Chuliskambo Aftab Hussain, BDC Chairperson Khatija Bano, Tehsildar Kargil (headquarter) Kacho Asgar Ali Khan visited Karkit village of Badgam which witnessed flash floods due cloudburst on Monday evening.
    Due to the flood, the main irrigation canal at Budgam has been damaged at some places which needs to be restored immediately.
    The officials of the Rural Development Department have reached the spot and are working to restore the irrigation canal on a priority basis and conduct a survey of the damage.
    In addition to it, standing crops and trees at Budgam have also suffered damage. It was informed that mud has also entered some rooms of a government middle school.
    In Zanskar, the officials of the Revenue Department today visited flood-hit areas at Ubrak and Ragzam Mohallah of Padum village where floods affected the irrigation canal on Sunday.
    However, the canal was temporarily restored while the officials of PWD are working for its permanent restoration. The officials of the Revenue Department also visited other affected areas as well to review the damage caused by the floods.
    Similarly, the floods on Monday has also affected canal, culvert and partially damaged National Highway 301 at Sani village in Zanskar.
    The road between Tungri Bridge and Sani is closed due to increase in water flow. It is requested to take Karsha Tungri road for vehicle movement.
    Officials informed that the restoration works have been taken up by the Mechanical Department while men and machinery has been deployed to areas.
