    Menstrual hygiene week celebrations continue in Kargil

    KARGIL, MAY 25, 2022: The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department (RD&PRD) in collaboration with Shoqpa Foundation today organized menstrual hygiene week celebrations in many areas of Kargil district.
    On the third consecutive day, menstrual health and hygienic week celebrations were held at Bhimbat and Thasgam in Bhimbat block, Pashkum A and Pashkum B in Pashkum block, Tacha and Lotchum in Lotchum block, Stakchay Khangral and Bodkharboo in Shakar Chiktan block, Hunder in Deskit block, Lingshed in Singaylalok block, Turtuk-1 in Turtuk block, Liktsey in Rong block.
    The program at Panchayat Halqa Kangral was held under the Chairmanship of Saida Banoo Block Development Chairperson. Volunteers from Shogpa Foundation, resource persons from RD&PRD, panches and their Panchayat Halqa village female members were present in the program. They thoroughly discussed the importance of menstrual hygiene and health.
    Menstrual hygiene celebrations were also held at panchayat Pashkum B where the female PRI members, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, volunteers, from RD&PRD and resource persons participated in the program.
    During the programs, resource persons sensitized women and adolescents about the importance of Menstrual Hygiene Day, menstrual health and hygiene management.
    Earlier, on May 23, an awareness camp was organized by the RD&PRD in collaboration with Shoqpa Foundation at Gram Panchayat, Karkitchoo and Hardass, Block Kargil in which female staff members of Block Kargil, Block Development Officer Kargil and women of both Panchayats participated in the awareness program.
    The resource person of Shoqpa foundation discussed in detail the hygienic practices that should be followed by women during periods. She emphasized on the use of menstrual cups and tampons in addition to the traditional use of cotton cloths and sanitary pads.
    Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day observed on May 28 to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management at a global level.
    The week-long programs are being organized ahead of the MHD to educate and aware women about sustainable menstruation and how is it important to take care of their health before anything else so that they can excel in whatever field they are.
