    KARGIL, DECEMBER 05, 2021: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kargil-1 in collaboration with Department of Agriculture Kargil today organized an awareness program on World Soil Day 2021 under the theme Halt Soil Salinization Boost Soil Productivity which was attended by Executive Councilor for Horticulture Aga Syed Hassan Arman, who was chief guest on the occasion.
    Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Kacho Mohammad Khan, District Agriculture Officer Extension (DAEO) Muhammad Iqbal, Senior Scientist Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station (MARES) Kargil Dr Faizan Ahmad, Principal Scientist KVK Kargil Dr Ghulam Mehdi, Scientists of KVK Dr Nazir Hussain and Dr Nasreen Fatima, Panchs, Sarpanchs, besides farmer community attended the awareness program.
    Speaking on the occasion, the EC, who was also the chief guest on the occasion, congratulated the farmer community of the village for being a part of the awareness program.
    He also extended his gratitude to the concerned departments for successfully organizing the awareness program.
    The EC urged farmers to implement various techniques and modern ways, taught by the experts, to maintain quality agricultural soil according to the designated scientific parameters.
    He said with the maintenance of good health of soil, farmers will be able to produce high-quality agricultural products and import their produce to markets outside Kargil which will enhance the economy of farmers.
    The EC informed the farmers that UT Administration and LAHDC Kargil is committed to transform Ladakh’s agriculture sector towards organic farming and will soon witness revolutionary changes.
    Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil Kacho Mohammad Khan said, in today’s world with new challenges in agriculture, scientists and experts are looking for sustainable ways to address various challenges including health of soil.
    He also urged the farmer community to attend such programs in future to keep themselves updated with modern techniques to address various challenges, urging them to impart skills and techniques to other farmers as well.
    Earlier Senior Scientist MARES Kargil Dr Faizan Ahmad, Principal Scientist KVK Kargil Dr Ghulam Mehdi, Scientists of KVK Dr Nazir Hussain and Dr Nasreen Fatima and other experts delivered lectures on effects of Salinization of soil on food production, various measures to overcome the challenges and to enhance soil health and its productivity.
    Around 250 farmers attended the day-long awareness camp. The program concluded with an interactive question answer session.
