GDC Nubra observes International Snow Leopard Day

    Leh, Oct 23: The Department of Sociology and Environmental Science, Government Degree College, Nubra today observed International Snow Leopard Day in collaboration with Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF) as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
    Ajay Bijoor, Assistant Director, High Altitude Program, NCF gave a detailed presentation on snow leopard and how conservation activities are carried out in the snow leopard range areas of the world.
    Karma Sonam, Field Coordinator, High Altitude Program, NCF, who was recently awarded Natwest Group ‘Earth Hero Inspire Award 2021’, shared his rich experience in conservation activities. He highlighted the programs and activities of NCF in Ladakh region.
    He also briefed the students about birding and the importance of keeping records of avian species.
    Later, two short documentary films, including Shangdong to Stupa and Ladakh Pashmina were screened to the audience. The students were also taken to the Tsogtot wetland area for birding where few bird species were sighted.
    The teaching faculty and the students participated in the event.
