    GDC Kargil observes International Biodiversity Day

    KARGIL, MAY 24, 2022: Government Degree College Kargil in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority and Divisional Forest Department today observed International Biodiversity Day aimed to increase awareness and understanding of issues of biodiversity.
    Dr Amina Qari, Principal GDC Kargil was the chief guest on the occasion. The event was graced by Block Forest Officer Kargil, representatives of District Legal Services Authority, college faculty members, personnel from forest department and students.
    The program commenced with national anthem by the college anthem group which was followed by welcome address by the principal.
    In her address, Dr Amina welcomed the audience and emphasized upon the issues of biodiversity prevalent around the globe.
    Four student speakers also presented their thoughts regarding the various perspectives of this year’s theme ‘BUILDING A SHARED FUTURE FOR ALL LIFE’.
    Block Forest Officer, Mohd Mehdi in his speech pointed up that conservation of biodiversity is a huge challenge before mankind and stressed upon active role of in conserving biodiversity.
    Advocate Syed Ruhullah, representing District Legal Services Authority while delivering his address enlightened broadly upon the legal aspects of conservation of biodiversity.
    The program ended with a vote of thanks by Ali Raheem, Assistant Professor (EVS). The proceedings of the event were conducted by Faiza Naaz, a third-semester student of the college.
    A plantation drive was also carried out on the occasion in which more than fifty saplings of different plants which also included medicinal plants were planted by the guests, faculty members and the students.
