    KARGIL, MAY 23, 2022: Government Degree College Drass on Saturday conducted an election to the Student Council for the post of President, General Secretary, Cashier, and Class representatives under the supervision of Principal GDC Drass, Dr Amjad Ali Abassi.
    The objective of the election was to promote civic responsibility, leadership, scholarship and human relations with the student body. The election was conducted to make it fair, fruitful and effective. A mock drill was conducted in the college campus a day before the elections were held.
    Notice to file nominations for the various posts was issued on May 14 and May 21 was fixed for the election while ballot papers were printed confidentially.
    This year recorded a greater number of nomination forms. The nominations were conducted for one week in which all the members and their groups conducted various events and programs in the college campus to attract voters.
    The candidates visited all the classrooms and requested students to vote in their favour. The contestants were allowed to explain the purpose of their candidature.
    On May 21, voting was held with great enthusiasm and result was declared on the same date. The candidates who were declared successful in the elections include Mohd Mujeeb Raza of 5th semester who was declared President and won with the margin of 12 votes, Khairun Nissa of 5th semester won unopposed for the post of General Secretary and Muhammad Abdullah won the post of Cashier with a margin of 10 votes. The total voting percentage recorded was 71 percent.
    Principal GDC Drass, Dr Amjad Ali Abassi congratulated all the winning candidates and requested them to perform their duties and assured all possible support to the student council. Later, the winning candidates took a victory march in the college campus.
