    Forest Range Nubra celebrates World Earth Day

    Leh, April 22: Forest Range Nubra celebrated World Earth Day at Field Research Station Diskit, Tsogstod wherein SDM Nubra, Lakshay Singhal was the chief guest for the occasion.
    Also, the Forest Department Nubra in collaboration with Govt Higher Secondary School Diskit, Nubra celebrated Earth Day on the school campus and nearly 500 plants were planted on the campus.
    While presenting the welcome speech, Range Officer, Nubra, Stanzin Delex spoke about the importance and significance of earth day for the conservation and protection of the environment. He urged the younger generation to instill a sense of love for nature, and its biodiversity, especially the local flora and fauna in them.
    A beautiful skit was presented by the school students depicting the level of environmental degradation Ladakh has undergone since the 1970s and the need for sustainable development. Also, Debate competition, drawing and other cultural programs were presented by the students.
    SDM Nubra, Lakshay Singhal addressed the audience on issues like sustainable development, the need for behavioural change, waste management, etc.
    Assistant Conservator of Forest, Shakeel Ahmad spoke about the role of the Forest Department in protecting the environment.
    Later, mementoes were given to the participants. Further, pledges were taken to protect the ecology and to encourage living an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
    Principal, Higher Secondary School, Deldan Angmo presented the vote of thanks.
