    Establishment of Forensic Science Laboratory in the Union Territory of Ladakh

    Leh, December 16: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the establishment of a Forensic Science Laboratory in Ladakh to be headed by a Deputy Director on the proposal of the Home department, UT Ladakh after its reorganization as a new Union territory.
    Forensic examinations and reports play an important role during investigations as well as trials for linking the culprit with the crime and will thus play a vital role in resolving all civil and criminal cases. Forensic Science Laboratory, Ladakh will provide an unbiased scientific opinion on different types of evidential material referred to them by the investigating agencies and in turn help the judiciary. The same will also play a significant role in exonerating the innocent.
    In the absence of the Forensic Science Laboratory in Ladakh, specimens had to be sent outside the UT which affected the investigations especially when the specimens were perishables like human viscera. FSL, Ladakh will be a multidisciplinary forensic laboratory capable of examination and analysis of biological, chemical, print, and documentary evidence.
    The establishment of the Forensic Science Laboratory unit in Ladakh will go a long way to give better, strong, and reliable evidence in the Court of Law and will also act as a deterrent to possible crimes in the future.
