    KARGIL, May 06, 2022: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, who is also the chairman of District Level Authority Committee (DLAC), today chaired a meeting in his office for effective implementation of “Safe Food and Healthy Diet” in the district.
    District Program Officer ICDS, Chief Agriculture Officer, General Manager DIC, Chief Education Officer Kargil (CEO), Assistant Director FCS&CA Kargil, Food Safety Officer Ladakh, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kargil besides other concerned attended the meeting.
    During the meeting, a detailed discussion and deliberation were held upon the various aspects and effective implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, rules and regulations framed and issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
    The meeting discussed periodical survey of food business to ensure licensing and registrations, periodic surveillance of food products, monitoring, enforcement, inspection, sampling, prosecution and adjudication related to food safety in the district.
    It also stressed on monitoring grievances of food business, consumer grievances redressal, help to build culture of self-compliance through systematic training and capacity building of food business under food safety and certification system, promotion of safe and healthy diet in Integrated Child Development Services ICDS.
    During the meeting, enlightening citizens about food safety and other related aspects of food safety were also discussed.
    To spread awareness among people related to food safety, hygiene and rules, DC Kargil directed the concerned officers to start mass campaigns in schools, Anganwadi centers.
    DC Santosh suggested to hold training program or workshop for pharmacists and enforcement employees as well to impart necessary information and skills to them.
    The Deputy Commissioner also directed the concerned officials to conduct regular market checking in order to avoid the purchase of expiry food products in the district.
