    KARGIL, AUGUST 31, 2021: During the first day of his 4 day extensive tour of Zanskar Sub Division, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve along with the Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary on Monday visited Rangdum, Tashi Stongday, Juldoo, Akshow, Abran, Skygam and adjoining villages where he interacted with various public delegations to know about their grievances and demands.
    Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil Ghulam Muhammmad, Chief Education Officer Nazir Ahmad Wani, Chief Medical Officer Dr Munawar Hussain Wazir, Sub Divisional Magistrate Zanskar Sonam Dorjay, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Dr Zakir Hussain, Executive Engineer PDD Altaf Hussain, Executive Engineer PDC Feroz Kakpori, Engineer PWD Division Zanskar Muhammad Abbas, Assistant Director FCS&CA Akbar Ali besides other district and Sub divisional officers accompanied the DC during the tour.
    At Rangdum and Tashi Stongday, the locals projected demand for construction of helipad and ice hockey rink, expansion of solar power plant, construction of bridge for Shakar village, establishment of medical sub centre, creation of Sarpanch halqa, construction of irrigation canal, restoration of link road and other related demands.
    The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the issues highlighted by the locals, and assured them that all genuine demands will be considered for appropriate follow up measures.
    The people of Akshow, Abran, Skygam and adjoining villages apprised DC Santosh Sukhadeve about their demands which mainly included the construction of suspension bridge over Rangy River, link road, financial assistance to yak and horse rearers, up gradation of middle school and medical aid centre to high school and community health centre, provision of ambulance for evacuation of patients during winter months, repair of footbridge damaged due to floods, augmentation of water supply, measures to counter bear attacks, sanction of land compensation for NH-301 works and other related issues.
    Responding to the local needs and demands, the Deputy Commissioner Kargil said that the Administration is conscious of the difficulties faced by the people in these areas. He assured the delegations that all their genuine demands would be taken up on priority and steps for fulfilment of demands would be taken in a phased manner.
    With regard to the demand for augmentation of water supply, DC Santosh Sukhadeve said that efforts are in full swing to provide clean and safe drinking water to every rural household through functional household tap connections (FHTCs) under Jal Jeevan Mission while field testing kits are also being provided in every Panchayat to check the quality of water. He said that the UT Administration Ladakh has set the target to ensure provision of round the year clean and safe drinking water to all rural households by August, 2022 and sought cooperation of the PRI members in monitoring the quality and progress of works in this regard so as to achieve the targets within the stipulated timelines.
    The Deputy Commissioner also assured that the demands regarding the up gradation of schools and health centres will be taken up with the UT Administration Ladakh for appropriate measures while suitable steps will also be taken to prevent bear attacks and provide compensation to the families whose livestock has been affected due to such attacks. He also said that 4 times stamp duty rates will be provided to the villagers whose land has come under the NH-301 road widening works.
    Meanwhile, the local people welcomed the Deputy Commissioner and appreciated him for personally visiting their area to take first hand appraisal of their issues and grievances.
