    KARGIL, AUGUST 31, 2021: On the second day of his Zanskar tour, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve inaugurated 25 KWP capacity solar power at Government Model Degree College (GMDC) Zanskar here today.
    The solar plant has been set up by the Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) at a cost of Rs 33.50 lacs under the Special Development Package (SDP).
    Principal GMDC Zanskar Nassir Shabani, Technical Officer to Project Director KREDA Ghulam Ali Nagvi, district and sub divisional officers, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college and students were present on the occasion.
    The Deputy Commissioner also went round different sections of the college including the administrative and teaching block, college library, laboratories, classrooms and other sections expressed satisfaction over the facilities available to the students.     Principal Nassir Shabani informed the Deputy Commissioner that 6 new projects will start in the college this year during the current financial year out of which 4 projects viz; 50 bedded separate hostel blocks for boys and girls, science laboratory block and indoor stadium cum multipurpose hall have been approved under SDP and gazetted staff quarters under district capex. He further said that these projects will be passive solar and conducive to the climatic conditions of Zanskar.
    DC Santosh Sukhadeve also interacted with the students and enlightened them about his experiences of cracking the civil services examinations, and how to prepare for competitive exams and advised students to aspire for achievements in life, remain focused towards their goals and work with dedication and perseverance to make their dreams come true. He extended best wishes to the students for their future endeavors and exhorted them to stay positive and be humane and people friendly to work for the betterment of the district and the country.
    Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Community Health Centre (CHC) Padum where he took stock of the patient care facilities available in the health center.
    DC Santosh Sukhadeve inspected various sections of the CHC including the wards, General OPD Section, Immunization Section, Minor OT, Orthopedic Section, Dental Section and other sections and expressed satisfaction on the availability of healthcare facilities. He also interacted with the patients and attendants and inquired from them about the status of facilities being provided to them at the health centre.
    While appreciating the doctors and paramedical staff for extending satisfactory services to needy patients even in harsh climatic conditions especially during the winter months, the Deputy Commissioner urged them to work with continued missionary zeal and dedication.
    DC Santosh Sukhadeve also took stock of the functioning of the 100 LPM oxygen plant and instructed the Chief Medical Officer Kargil and Block Medical Officer Zanskar to ensure the availability of adequate quantity of oxygen for general as well as COVID-19 patients in the sub division. He also instructed the concerned officers to ensure the stocking medicines and other healthcare facilities in the sub division in a timely manner well before the closure of the Zojila and Penzila passes.
