    KARGIL, AUGUST 04, 2021: As a part of the Swatcch Ladakh Campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan flagged off 10 days cleanliness drive in the district at Auditorium Hall Kargil here today.
    Executive Councilor for Works and Information Aga Syed Abbas Razvi, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tsering Motup, Member Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil Zaheer Hussain Babar, officers and officials of various departments, volunteers of religious organizations and cleanliness workers of MC were present during the opening ceremony.
    Speaking on the occasion, CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan said that to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence throughout the year under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, different programmes are being held across the country, and in this regard a sustained cleanliness drive is being held across the UT Ladakh including Kargil District from 5th to 15th August, 2021.
    Terming Kargil a clean city, CEC Feroz Khan said that as compared to other districts Kargil is way ahead in cleanliness, but more efforts need to be done towards cleanliness and environmental consciousness, as our water sources are depleting and pollution levels are also going up, adding he said that ensuring cleanliness and safety of environment has become mandatory considering the recent flash floods in different villages of Ladakh.
    CEC Khan on the occasion said that the aim of this cleanliness drive should not be confined to cleanliness only, but awareness should also be imparted through this campaign, and in this regard individual or groups, who will show exemplary performance in the cleanliness drive will be felicitated on this year’s Independence Day.
    Meanwhile, the District Administration has chalked out a detailed cleanliness drive schedule for the municipal limits of Kargil Town as well as all sub divisions and blocks across the district.
    On day 1st of the drive today, under the overall monitoring and supervision of the designated monitoring/nodal officers, employees of different departments and other government agencies including those of MC, GDC Kargil, NHPC Chutak, ARTO Office, NYK, Animal Husbandry, Tourism, BSNL, Post Office, LAACL, Information, CCF Office and volunteers carried out the cleanliness and sanitation of areas in Kargil Town from Iqbal Bridge, Drass Taxi Stand, Tourist Dak Bungalow and Poyen Bridge to Auditorium Hall.
    Similarly, on 6th and 7th August, cleanliness drive will be held at Baroo and Main Bazar Kargil by the employees of all government departments under the supervision of the concerned HODs, while on 8th August volunteers of religious institutions will hold cleanliness around the religious institutions and their surroundings.
    Likewise from 9th and 13th August, the drive is scheduled to be held in ward number 1 to 13 of Kargil Town by volunteers, ward members and the officers and officials of Forest, Employment, Cooperatives, Labour, Tehsil Office Kargil, Education, PWD- 1st, R&B-II, Legal Metrology, Handloom and Handicraft and other concerned departments.
    On 14th August 2021, the cleanliness drive will be held at TFC, Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Bulbulbagh area and surroundings under the supervision of the officials of R&B-II Division and MC Kargil.
    Apart from the Kargil Town, a detailed calendar of activities has been laid out for the sub divisions and blocks including Kargil, Sodh, Drass, Bhimbhat, Barsoo, Karsha, Lotchum, Lungnak, Pashkum, Sankoo and Shakar Chiktan, Shargole, Tai Suru, TSG and Zanskar where the cleanliness drive is being held by different departments with the active participation of the public representatives and PRI members including Councillors, BDC Chairpersons, Sarpanchs, Panchs and student community.
    Special Gram Sabha/Swacch and Sabha Pani Sabha will also be organized to create awareness about the importance of sustainable cleanliness for healthy living and the welfare of the present generation and the posterity.
