    KARGIL, MAY 12, 2022: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani today chaired a meeting to discuss solid waste management in urban and rural areas of Kargil district.
    The meeting was attended by Secretary DLSA Kargil/Munsif Sankoo Moneer Ahmed, Dy SP DAR Chimba Samstan, DPO Kargil Padma Angmo and representative of Forest Department Niyaz Ali and representative of Municipal Committee Kargil Jaffar Ali.
    During the meeting the ADC directed the concerned officers to hold awareness programs for the effective implementation of solid waste management in Kargil district.
    He also directed DPO to make a schedule for the awareness programs and do it in coordination with other departments besides create a WhatsApp group for the dissemination of information about the same with concerned officials.
    The awareness programs will be held especially in rural areas during which people will be informed about solid waste management and waste segregation.
    The DPO informed the ADC about the garbage collection and other solid waste management measures are in place in the district.
    The ADC directed the officers to work in coordination and hold the awareness programs for the collection and disposal of garbage in the district. The ADC also directed the MC Kargil not to collect the garbage in vehicles during day time on roads.
    Earlier in the day the ADC chaired a similar meeting regarding solid waste management which was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, Ghulam Muhammad and Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Shafaqat Hussain.
    The ADC instructed the ACD to submit a report on current status of solid waste management in rural areas. He sought information on future requirements and procurements to cover remaining expenses for procurement of machinery, dustbins, vehicles and shed establishment.
    The ACD informed that for six blocks of Kargil district, segregation sheds have been established, vehicles have been procured, pressing machines have been installed while dustbins have been procured and provided in some blocks. However, only one shed in Kargil block is functional while other segregation sheds need electrification.
    He further informed that nine more sheds, vehicles, dustbins and electrification has been proposed under SDP to install in remaining nine blocks of the district. The ACD further suggested that rest rooms and sanitation rooms are also needed at all segregation sheds.
    The EO Municipal Committee appraised the ADC about the current mechanism functional in Kargil town for effective solid waste management.
